AAP’s Gujarat president Gopal Italia was arrested briefly on Tuesday in an offence related to election speech for which an FIR for hurting religious sentiments had been registered. Police said that since the offence was bailable, Italia was arrested and was granted bail.
One of the firebrand speakers of AAP, Italia, was booked by Umrala police in Bhavnagar district for hurting religious sentiments on September 4 under sections 295-A and 298 of IPC.
Police said that the FIR was based on a complaint filed by one Amit Dangar, a resident of Ganghola village, who stated that Italia’s speech claiming “Arvind Kejriwal coming as Arjun to rescue from Lord Krishna and BJP’s demons.” According to police, notices had been issued to Italia but he allegedly ducked.
