In a shocking incident, a man on Monday robbed Rs 6 lakh from a bank in Chennai at gunpoint but was arrested by the traffic police as he was fleeing the busy area.
The man, identified as Sunil Yadav, is originally from Bihar and is currently staying in Kelambakkam on the IT corridor. The police also recovered two country-made pistols from his possessions.
The incident, caught on CCTV, took place at the Adyar branch of Indian Bank around noon when Yadav, wearing a helmet, barged into the manager's room and pointed his gun at him and robbed Rs 6 lakh.
Shocked bank officials and customers tried to overpower Yadav, but he managed to flee the premises by pointing his gun at them and getting on a motorcycle.
Yadav was nabbed when another customer tried catching the accused in the traffic by chasing his motorcycle when he was joined by the traffic police.
