Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday spoke to Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, asking him to take strict action against those involved in the incident of two women being paraded naked in Manipur in May.
Shah's call went to Singh, a day after the video of the incident surfaced on social media. Shah is learned to have asked Singh to take all possible steps to arrest the perpetrators.
The surfacing of video of the incident that took place on May 4 has increased tension in Manipur, which has been witnessing ethnic violence since May 3.
A case of abduction, gang rape, and murder has been registered at Nongpok Sekmai police station in Thoubal district against unknown armed miscreants.
