YSR Congress chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy on Wednesday performed the house-warming ceremony of his office-cum-residence in the riverfront village of Tadepalli in Amaravati, which Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has dubbed a "palace".
The Opposition leader, who has palatial houses in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pulvendula, has finally built one in the state capital region, allaying apprehensions that he might shift the capital out of Amaravati if he is voted to power in the ensuing elections.
The ceremony was a simple one, in which Jaganmohan Reddy's family and close friends participated.
Amid prayers from all prayers, Jagan and his wife Bharathi entered the new house, which has YSRCP’s central office also in the same compound.
The new house, constructed reportedly at a of Rs 100 crore is built in an area of 2 acres of land. To be named as 'Rajasekhara Nilayam', the structure will host all the party activities here afterwards.
"The ruling TDP has been spreading canards that Jagan will move the capital out of Amaravati. Now what would they say? Jagan will be staying here," party legislator and actor Roja said in Amaravati.
She wanted to know why Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, who left Hyderabad fearing action against him in the 'vote for note' case, failed to build his own house in Amaravati.
"Probably he knows that he is not coming back after these elections," Roja said.
YSRCP's manifesto committee, which met under the chairmanship of senior party leader Ummareddy on Tuesday, also made it clear that the party has no intention whatsoever to shift the capital out of Amaravati after coming to power.
'A party of palaces'
Meanwhile, speaking to party leaders through tele-conferencing, Naidu made interesting comments about Jagan’s new home in Tadepalli.
"Jagan can't live without a palace. He has so many palaces. One at Lotus Pond, Bengaluru, another at Pulivendula, and now one in Tadepalli. Till the Tadepalli palace was built, he didn't leave Hyderabad. YSRCP is not the party of poor but the party of palaces," Naidu said.
Naidu, after shifting from Hyderabad lives in a rented accommodation, also on the river front.
He built a house in Hyderabad as his wife Bhuvaneswari lives in Hyderabad and takes care of Heritage foods industry.
