Popular Tamil actor Ajith Kumar on Monday clarified he does not nurse any political ambitions — directly or indirectly — and disapproved of his being tagged with political events, days after Tamil Nadu BJP asked the actor’s fans to “spread the good schemes” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi among the people.
“I have no intention of taking a plunge in politics directly or indirectly. My only connection with politics is the day when I stand in the queue along with the common man to exercise my vote. I had never forced my fans to vote for a political party and I will never do so,” Ajith said in a statement.
The actor also said he had always disapproved of fans passing lewd comments or using unparliamentary language even in social media while criticising his opponents in the film world. Ajith said he was a self-made man and would never use his popularity as an actor to be in politics.
His statement came days after Tamilisai Soundararajan, the TN BJP chief, exhorted Ajith fans to “spread the good schemes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi among the people.” She made the comment after several of Ajith fans joined the BJP.
