President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday joined world leaders to condemn the terror attack on the office of a satirical magazine “Charlie Hebdo” in Paris.
Strongly condemning the attack, the President said: “Terror and violence have no place in any corner of the world. The world community must unite to root out terror from every country and society.”
Expressing anguish over the loss of innocent lives, Mukherjee conveyed his condolences to the families of the bereaved and prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured. “Condemnable and despicable attack in Paris. Our solidarity with people of France. My thoughts are with families of those who lost their lives,” Modi tweeted.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi described the attack as “cowardly and dastardly”. “Shocked at the audacity of
the gruesome act. Extremism and intolerance will never be able to curb freedom of expression and will only result in perpetuation of violence,” she said.
