Responding to Devendra Fadnavis' offer of resignation, Eknath Shinde addressed the media and said, "Electoral defeat is a collective responsibility. All three parties worked together in the elections.

"If you look at the vote share, Mahayuti got more than two lakh votes in Mumbai. The reasons for the defeat will be honestly reviewed.

"In the last two years, the government has taken many good decisions in the state. I will be speaking to Devendra ji soon. We have worked together in the past and we will keep on working in the future. We have collectively failed to counter the false claims of the opposition."

PTI has reported that President Droupadi Murmu has ordered to dissolve the 17th Lok Sabha.

Earlier today , Narendra Modi tendered his resignation along with his Council of Ministers to the president, which she accepted.

She requested the Prime Minister and the Union Council of Ministers to continue in office till the new government is formed.

News agency PTI has reported that NDA leaders have formally elected Narendra Modi as the alliance leader.

The leaders also passed a resolution underlining alliance government's commitment to serving the poor, women, youth, farmers and deprived sections of society.

'We fought well, fought unitedly, fought resolutely," Kharge proclaims at I.N.D.I.A. alliance meet

An important meeting took place at Kharge's residence this evening where the I.N.D.I.A. bloc president proclaimed that that mandate was decisively against Modi.

He said, "We fought well, fought unitedly, fought resolutely. The I.N.D.I.A. Alliance welcomes all parties which share its fundamental commitment to the values enshrined in the Preamble of our Constitution and to its many provisions for economic, social and political justice.

"The mandate is decisively against PM Modi and the substance and style of his politics. It is a huge political loss for him personally apart from it being a clear moral defeat as well. However, he is determined to subvert the will of the people."

Key takeaways from NDA meet 

During the meet at prime minister's residence, NDA partners said that the PM has a clear vision for Viksit Bharat and they are partners in this goal.

They lauded the PM’s role in increasing India’s pride in the world and his efforts towards poverty eradication.

PM said that this was a historic mandate for 3rd consecutive government which was last received in India 60 years back.

'The people's mandate has given a befitting reply to the BJP and their politics of hate, corruption and deprivation,' Kharge addresses the media 

After the conclusion of the key meet at Kharge's residence, the I.N.D.I.A. bloc president addressed the media, along with prominent members of the alliance.

He said that, "The constituents of I.N.D.I.A. bloc thank the people of India for the overwhelming support received by our alliance. The people's mandate has given a befitting reply to the BJP and their politics of hate, corruption and deprivation.

"This is a mandate in defence of the Constitution of India and is against price rise, unemployment and crony capitalism as well as to save the democracy.

"The I.N.D.I.A. bloc will continue to fight against the fascist rule of the BJP led by Modi. We will take appropriate steps at the appropriate time to realise the people's desire not to be ruled by the BJP government. This is our decision and we all agreed on these points, and will definitely keep the promises given to the people."

After the NDA meet, TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu said he will come back to Delhi on June 7.

Earlier, news agency PTI reported the NDA MPs will meet on June 7 to formally elect Narendra Modi as their leader. The alliance leaders will then go to the President to submit their letters of support.

JD (U) rules out any truck with I.N.D.I.A. bloc

In a press statement, Nitish Kumar's aide Rajiv Ranjan said that I.N.D.I.A. alliance have "lost their mental balance" after being defeated in their third consecutive election.

He said the "misleading campaign" against Nitish Kumar illustrates desperation among the I.N.D.I.A. allies.
