Himachal Assembly adopts resolution to condemn Kangana's remarks, AAP protests in Haryana

The opposition on Tuesday stepped up its attack on BJP MP Kangana Ranaut over her remarks on farmers' protests with the Himachal Pradesh Assembly adopting a Congress-backed resolution to condemn her comments and AAP holding protests at several places in Haryana.

The MP from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh had posted a clip of her interview with Hindi daily Dainik Bhaskar in which she suggested that a "Bangladesh-like situation" could have erupted in India but for the country's strong leadership. She then alleged that bodies were hanging and rapes were taking place during the farmers' protest against the now-repealed three farm laws.

She alleged the involvement of China and the US in the "conspiracy".

Kangana's remarks triggered heated exchanges in the assembly of her Congress-ruled home state as the House adopted a resolution condemning the remarks.

P Chidambaram takes a dig at CEA Anantha Nageswaran over 10 Years of Jan Dhan Yojana

Former Finance Minister P Chidambaram acknowledged the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Jan Dhan Yojana (JDY) by Chief Economic Adviser Anantha Nageswaran but took a dig at the lack of mention of earlier contributions that laid the groundwork of the scheme.

In a social media post on X, he said, "Mr Anantha Nageswaran, chief economic adviser, is certainly right in celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Jan Dhan Yojana But should he not have acknowledged the pioneering role of Dr C Rangarajan, then RBI governor, who introduced the 'no frills account' or ' zero balance account'? Millions of accounts were created in banks under the scheme and people encouraged to save It is that scheme which was renamed as Jan Dhan Yojana by the BJP government in August 2014 I am happy that the scheme has grown to include over 53 crore beneficiaries."

More work needs to be done in Kerala & West Bengal: BJP on Hema Committee report

Reacting to Hema Committee report which has rocked the mollywood indsutry in Kerala, BJP leader Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Wednesday said that, "The position of our party and every man or woman in India is that the fundamental right of every woman in India is to have a safe workplace. Our PM has done a lot for women empowerment in the last 10 years. It is clear that in places like Kerala and West Bengal, more work needs to be done. Hema Committee report is a shocking revelation that because of the power concentration in the Kerala film industry, the women working in the industry are being exploited and harassed and harmed. This is not an issue which can be brushed under the carpet by Pinarayi Vijayan govt. These claims must be investigated fairly and the guilty should not be spared."

Rane supporters clash as Aaditya reaches site of Shivaji Maharaj statue collapse

The party workers of Shiv Sena (UBT) and supporters of BJP leader Narayan Rane clashed on Wednesday when the two sides reached the site of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue collapse in Sindhudurg district.

The 35-foot statue of the 17th century Maratha empire founder, unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Rajkot fort in Sindhudurg on December 4 last year, collapsed on Monday afternoon.

The incident has snowballed into a political controversy with the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) targeting the Mahayuti government and seeking Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's resignation. Sena (UBT) leader and former Maharashtra minister Aaditya Thackeray visited the Rajkot fort on Wednesday to take stock of the situation post the statue collapse.

During his visit, former Union minister Narayan Rane, who represents the Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg Lok Sabha constituency, also reached the site along with his elder son and former MP Nilesh Rane and a number of supporters. The Ranes were seen arguing with the police as Thackeray was inside the fort. Soon, a clash broke out between the supporters of Thackeray and Rane.

As tension gripped the site, the police and security personnel were seen struggling to bring the situation under control. Talking about the clash, Thackeray said it was unfortunate and immature that the ruckus took place. "I have told my party workers not to indulge in politics at the fort of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj," he said.

Watch | AAP workers stage protest in Chandigarh over BJP MP Kangana Ranaut's remark on farmers' protest

Speaking on Kangana Ranaut’s remarks on farmers’ protests at AAP workers protest in Chandigarh, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann said, "...People elected her as an MP to resolve the issues of Mandi constituency, and not to make absurd and baseless statements that would create unrest in society. It is an incorrect statement, an MP should not make such statements that would hurt someone...BJP should not just say that it is a statement made in a personal capacity, they should also control this...If you make such absurd statements, then naturally there will be anger. So, I would like to tell the BJP Government to control its MPs...All kinds of statements are made for farmers' protest, this is intolerable." (ANI)

On the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue incident, Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis says, "I think no one should do politics on this incident. The Navy took this matter seriously and formed an investigation committee, the committee has visited there and the Navy will investigate the matter and take appropriate action... The opposition should not do such cheap politics. Sharad Pawar is a senior leader, he also knows that this statue has been installed by the Navy, it has not been installed by the state government, corruption is not acceptable anywhere, we oppose corruption, if Pawar Sahab gives such statements then I am surprised, does Pawar Sahab support corruption by giving such statements?..."
