The Ministry of Education (MoE) announced late on Wednesday night the cancellation of UGC-NET exam a day after it was conducted. They said it was cancelled on the “basis of inputs from Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C)”

In the light of the event, many students have taken to social media to express their despair regarding the current situation.

In an interview with PTI, a student named Rajnish Rana, hailing from Delhi laments over the cancellation of the exam and questions National Testing Agency over their ability to conduct such examinations.

The UGC-NET exam helps in finding an entry-level teaching job in Indian universities and also helps in gaining admissions to PhD programmes.

The ministry felt the exam was compromised, says Govind Jaiswal, Ministry of Education Joint Secretary

In an address to the media, Govind Jaiswal, Ministry of Education Joint Secretary said, '9 lakh students participated in the UGC-NET exam that the NTA conducted on June 18.

"On June 19, some inputs were received from 14C. Keeping those inputs as Prima facie, the ministry felt the exam was compromised.

"Thus, with an aim to ensure student interest, Ministry has decided to cancel the examination. We will come out with a new date for the exam very soon. The matter has also been referred to the CBI."

Speaking to media after visiting the victims of Hooch tragedy in Kallakurichi Government Medical College, Former AIADMK leader V K Sasikala said the 'government should take responsibility for these deaths'.
