The visit of the investigating team and directive to Menon comes three days after the barbaric terror attack on Kabul in which six Indian citizens were killed and 10 others were injured.
The team, which consists of officials from home and defence ministries, began probing the attack on the two hotels on Monday. They are assisting their Afghan counterparts in the probe.
Afghanistan has set up a five-member team to investigate the incident. Menon, is expected to review the situation in Kabul and look at ways of securing Indians from the terror threat.
During his stay in Kabul, he is likely to meet top Afghanistan leadership, including President Hamid Karzai to discuss various aspects related to security of Indians engaged in developmental projects across the war torn country.
