Maharashtra: Heavy rains lash three districts; communication lost with 128 villages, people evacuated

At least 130 villages in three districts of Maharashtra, all in the Marathwada and Vidarbha regions, were affected by heavy rains which caused floods in parts of these districts and at least 200 people were evacuated, but fortunately, no casualties are reported, officials said on Saturday. In the Gadchiroli district in east Maharashtra, communication with 128 villages is lost due to heavy rains.

Heavy rains continue to lash Telangana

Low-lying areas faced inundation while rivulets were in spate at several places in Telangana on Saturday following incessant rains in the last few days. Navipet in Nizamabad district received 23 cms of rain, the Met Centre of IMD here said. Rainfall led to water-logging in low-lying areas, while tanks received copious inflows in Nizamabad and Kamareddy districts. In its Daily Weather Report, the Met Centre said extremely heavy rain was recorded at isolated places in Nizamabad district.

The IMD had forecast only 'very light rain' and later said that such localised high rainfall events occur regularly even when authorities term it as an event of cloudburst. The Yatra has been suspended temporarily in wake of the chaos and persisting bad weather conditions.

A Doppler radar is an important tool that gives the India Meteorological Department (IMD) a more accurate assessment of the clouds and rainfall in the given range of the radar, 100 km in case at Banihal.

Army carries out rescue ops for Amarnath Yatris at Baltal

The Indian Army is continously carrying out rescue operation for theAmarnathYatris injured in the cloudburst at Baltal in Kashmir.

The Army in a statement on Saturday said the rescue team immediately rushed to the site after getting information about the casualties.

"An Infantry Battalion led by Colonel along with Quick Reaction Teams, an additional company worth of personnel from Sector RR and a team from Special Forces reached the holyAmarnathcave along with specialised rescue equipment to undertake the rescue operation," the Army said.

Assam floods damaged 30,000 to 40,000 houses, says CM Himanta

As many as 30,000 to 40,000 houses were damaged in Assam due to the recent massive floods, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said seeking an advance fund from the NDRF to help the affected people.

Sarma conveyed this to Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a meeting here on Friday evening and sought central help.

The chief minister briefed the home minister that around 30,000 to 40,000 houses were damaged by the deluge, an official statement said on Saturday.

Sarma requested Shah to release an advance amount from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) for the rehabilitation of the flood-hit people whose houses were severely or fully damaged.

Later, talking to journalists, Sarma said since Assam's flood has been labelled "severe" by a central team, which made an assessment of the flood situation, he sought an advance fund from the NDRF to enable the state to help the people whose houses were damaged by the deluge.

Cloudburst triggers flash floods in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda

A cloudburst triggered flash floods in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district on Saturday, causing minor damage to some vehicles, officials said. The cloudburst occurred around 4 am in Gunti forest area in Thathri belt, resulting in heavy flash floods, they said.

No casualty has been reported in the incident, an officer said.

Some vehicles were stuck in mudslides and the highway was blocked for some time, but it has now been restored for traffic movement, the officials said.

Delhi's minimum temp over 30 degrees C, rain expected

The minimum temperature in the national capital on Saturday settled at 30.5 degree Celsius, three notches above the normal, an India Meteorological Department bulletin said.

Amarnath: ITBP says 15,000 stranded pilgrims evacuated

At least 15,000 pilgrimswho were stranded near the Amarnath holy cave in Jammu and Kashmirhave been shifted to the lower base camp of Panjtarni, an ITBP spokesperson said on Saturday.

The border guarding force has also expanded its route opening and protection parties from lower part of the holy cave up to Panjtarni, he said.

"Most of the yatris, who were stranded near holy cave area due to the flash flood that occurred last evening, have been shifted to Panjtarni. The evacuation continued till 3.38 am.

"No yatri is left on the track. About 15,000 people have been safely shifted till now," the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) spokesperson said.

A Border Security Force (BSF) spokesperson said doctors and medical staff of the paramilitary force treated nine patients who were critically injured in the floods.

"They have been rescued to lower altitude Neelgrath base camp," he said. A small BSF team is also deployed at the Neelgrath helipad to assist the pilgrims coming from the holy cave.

Cloudburst kills 13 near Amarnath shrine, about 40 still missing

An official of the union territory administration said the Amarnath yatra, which began on June 30, has been suspended following the tragedy and a decision on its resumption will be taken after rescue operations get over.

An official on the ground said about 30-35 people are missing while five have been rescued.

NDRF Director General Atul Karwal told PTI that a team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was already based in the affected area and two more from nearby locations of Barari Marg and Panchtarni have reached there.
