The Delhi Police on Tuesday formed a special investigation team (SIT) to probe serial child-rapist and murderer Ravinder Kumar, who claims to have sexually abused and murdered 30-40 children in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana since 2009.
The SIT, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Vikramjit Singh, will also track Ravinder’s crimes in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. The investigators suspect many of Ravinder's crimes went unreported.
Ravinder has told the police his inspiration came from “Maa”, a Hindi film released in 1992, in which an actor was shown raping and murdering children.
“Going by Ravinder’s disclosures, the number of children he sexually abused and murdered reached around 40. The SIT has been formed as most of the cases are from UP and Haryana. We will now coordinate the probe with the local police of the areas Ravinder has mentioned,” Singh told Deccan Herald.
The police will recreate the sequence of crimes with the help of local law-enforcement authorities.
Over the past three days, Ravinder has been taken to Begampur, Kanjhawala, Bawana and Aman Vihar to recall the his crimes. “We will take him to all the places where he committed the crimes,” said Singh.
The police also plan to conduct a brain-mapping test to authenticate Ravinder’s claims.
