Senior forest officials had to face the ire of the villagers near Chainuhadlu following the death of a man after he was attacked by a tusker.
Sources said Vijay Ranjan Singh, DCF, Nagarahole, and Project Tiger Director Hosmath who visited the place were gheraoed by angry villagers.
In another incident, a forest watcher, who was attacked by a herd of elephants on Wednesday morning at K Gudi range, suffered serious injuries. He has been admitted to a hospital in Mysore and is said to be out of danger.
