Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Monday said that works to upgrade the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway into a 10-lane expressway would begin from October-end.

Kumaraswamy, who held a meeting with officials of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), Energy, PWD and Revenue departments, stressed that works should begin at the earliest.

He also directed the departments to obtain the required clearances for acquisition of revenue and forest lands and shifting of power lines and poles at the earliest. The NHAI is spending over Rs 7,000 crore on upgrading the existing four-lane road into the 10-lane expressway.

The Chief Minister also said that around 3,460 km of national highways in Bengaluru, Chitradurga, Mangaluru, Kalaburagi, Ballari, Ramanagaram and Tumakuru districts were being upgraded into four and six-lane roads.

The government was spending about Rs 36,000 crore on these projects, he added.
