The cybercrime police have registered a case against two men for spreading hate messages on social media against Congress MLA Zameer Ahmed Khan.
The two have been identified as Anush Shivappa from Mysuru and Madhugiri Modi from Tumakuru.
Trouble began to brew when Shivappa’s video, in which he allegedly abused Ahmed, went viral on social media which prompted a Congress worker, Iqbal Ali Khan, to lodge a complaint with the police.
The complaint was lodged on May 10. It stated that Zameer Ahmed, while addressing a crowd constituting people from a minority community on April 28, said no one could stop the Congress from coming to power this elections, and that he would become a minister. This statement was twisted by people affiliated with the BJP and right-wing activists, who began to harass him on a social media platform.
Besides, the duo threatened the MLA of dire consequences if he entered Mysuru.
A case has been registered under sections of the Information Technology Act, 2000, and relevant sections of the IPC, including those of promoting enmity between two religions.
