The Madikeri City Municipal Council (CMC) meeting decided to take up widening of Mahadevpet road and Ganapathi street road as soon as possible. The road will be widened by 12 feet.

The meeting was presided by CMC President P D Ponnappa. Ponnappa said three months time was given for the residents on road widening. As the merchants have shown interest in widening of the road, the final decision has to be taken.

A decision was taken to purchase diesel for generators for supplying drinking water in the city. As there is severe power crisis in Kodagu, generator has to be used for pumping water. CMC has to spend Rs 24,000 to Rs 26,000 daily on diesel to run the generator for ten hours. As many as nine CMC members agreed to use the generator to pump water.

The CMC also took a decision to ban posters in Madikeri city limits. CMC permission should be taken to tie banner. The meeting also decided to request the police to crackdown on persons who stick handbills in public places.

The meeting decided that a bus-stand with modern facilities will be constructed with private partnership by utilising funds granted to the CMC under the Chief Minster’s Small and Medium Towns Development Project. All the water tanks in the city will be purified.

Under Chief Minster’s Small and Medium Towns Development Project, Rs 5 crore has been released. If 80 per cent of the funds are utilised, then the government will release second installment. The meet decided to go for asphaltation of road.
