A health centre like 'none other'

Even as officers from every department complain about lack of buildings during every taluk and zilla panchayat progress review meeting, four buildings in the taluk remain
unused and are turning into ruins.

Constructed at an expenditure of more than Rs 60 lakh, the buildings have been stripped of doors and windows, which were taken away by local residents.

The tiles and sheets covering the roofs too have pretty much come off. The buildings are being pulled down slowly, day by day. Or they are being eaten away by termites.

‘Ill-health department’

One of the buildings belongs to the Taluk Health Department.

Although it is the health sub-centre, the doors of the building are opened two times a week, said Taluk Health Officer Dr Srinivas.

The local people, however, refute this, and say they have never seen the doors of the building opened.

As if proving the people right are the weeds grown tall and dense all about the health centre. In addition, one can even find proof that the place is being used for uncivil activities. Empty liquor bottles and piles of condoms are found on the premises.

Facility denied

Opening the health centre regularly will convenience residents of as much as 16 villages all around the area.

However, as the centre is forever locked, the local people have to go to Kolar or at least till Bangarpet for even little medical problems.

The centre is just off the main road. Therefore, virtually all officers and representatives of the people, who travel by the road witness the building dying away. Yet, a sheer lack of will-power keeps them from taking any action to improve the condition of the building.

The officers are not even interested in making a survey of the unused buildings and handing them over to departments that are in need of buildings as workplaces.

Steps the wrong way

Most officers ensure crores of rupees in grant for the construction of buildings and inspect the work that goes on.

But, in the meantime, they manage to get lakhs of rupees themselves.

Filled with illegalities

Most officers ensure grants upto crores of rupees for the construction of buildings and inspect the work that goes on. But, in the meantime, they manage to get lakhs of rupees themselves.

In spite of such irregularities going on, the officers who are answerable for the destruction of such buildings should be taken action against.

Only then would waste of public money be contained at least to an extent. Proposals are submitted for buildings not necessary, grants are availed of, the buildings are constructed and commission collected.

Rogues who indulge in such ill-acts would also be punished, says owner of the Congress S N Resort, K M Narayanaswamy, with fury.

“Yet, under present circumstances, where guards themselves loot the house, who would ensure that legal action is taken against wrong-doers and irregularities are controlled?” He asks with a sigh.
