The State unit of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has released a unique and concise manifesto for the May 5 Assembly elections in Karnataka. The one-page document promises to uplift “every citizen,” especially the minorities, if voted to power.

It primarily pledges to “create an atmosphere of brotherhood, love and integrity among all communities and peaceful co-existence and overall development of Karnataka.”

Besides uplifting the backward classes, the downtrodden and the SC/ST communities, it promises benefits to Muslims on the basis of the recommendations of the Justice Sachar Committee.

A major portion of the manifesto has been devoted to the protection of Wakf properties in order to provide financial assistance to students from the economically weaker backgrounds, scholarships for higher education, and for establishing educational institutions for minorities.

Financial aid for marriages of poor Muslim orphans, protecting mosques, dargahs and graveyards; special quota for Muslims in the Police department, are among the other welfare schemes.
