Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao suspended Nagari MLA Roja for a year from Assembly for her remarks on Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu on Friday.
Rao announced her suspension after Parliamentary Affairs Minister Y Ramakrishnudu moved a resolution. However the actress-turned-MLA refused to leave the House.
Several TDP legislators sought Roja’s suspension alleging that the Nagari MLA made wild allegations against the chief minister while he presented a statement on the call money issue in the Asembly.
She even led a group of her party MLAs to the podium very close to where the CM stood, prompting Chandrababu Naidu to remark that there is no security for the chief minister inside the House from the YSR Congress goons.
YSR Congress legislators demanded revocation of her suspension, saying that it was too harsh and motivated. The Speaker refused and directed Roja to leave the Assembly saying her stay will be treated as contempt of the Assembly. Roja left the House and addressed the media outside.
Known for her fiery comments, Roja caused a storm in the Assembly in December 2014, resulting in the manhandling of a TDP veteran and a five-time MLA Gorantla Buchaih Choudhry, representing Rajahmundry Rural constituency.
In March 2015, Roja and fellow YSR Congress member Kodali Nani were caught on Assembly camera abusing the treasury benches and making threatening gestures.
Earlier during the day, TDP MLA Bonda Umamaheswar Rao addressed Roja as ‘Aunty’, causing pandemonium.
