Speaking after inaugurating taluk-level Krishi mahotsava organised jointly by Kodagu Zilla Panchayat in association with Agriculture department, taluk panchayat and other organisations at Koodige on Tuesday, he said “government aims at economic empowerment of farmers.” Stating that CM has been giving emphasis to farming and rural development, he said the government has given priority for providing support price for the crops and marketing facilities.
He said for the overall development of agriculture sector, Krishi Mahotsava is being organised in every taluk in the state. Every taluk will be given a sum of Rs 3 lakh for the Krishi mahotsava.
Zilla Panchayat President V M Vijay called upon the farmers to go for organic farming. In the backdrop of increase in migration of youth to the cities in search of employment, there is severe shortage of farm labourers. Hence, the farm land is being neglected and there is a possibility of shortage of food production in the future, he warned.

Expo
The exhibition at the Krishi Mahotsava attracted the attention of the farmers. The farm equipments related to drip irrigation, tilling, power tiller were exhibited.
A pair of ‘Hallikar’ ox belonging to Puttappa of Shirangala Kote was a special attraction at the venue. The veterinary department had put up a stall highlighting the farmers to go for poultry, rearing rabbits to earn additional income. The products produced by Self Help Groups were also exhibited.
The stall on hi-tech solar fencing was seen giving information to the farmers on checking wild animals attacking the crops.
