Almatti, Hidkal dams to get bird sanctuaries

Minister for Forests Satish Jarkiholi said on Saturday that a project had been prepared for creating bird sanctuaries near Almatti reservoir in Vijayaura district and Hidkal reservoir in Belagavi district.

He was speaking after inaugurating the two-day Hornbill Festival here on Saturday.

The minister said there was a plan to increase forest cover in the Hyderabad-Karnataka region using drip irrigation.

Jarkiholi said there were plans to start a zoo in every district. Revenue Minister R V Deshpande and others were present on the occasion.
