The state BJP will organise ‘Asthi Visarjan’ (immersion of ashes) of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee at Triveni Sangam in Srirangapatna and seven other places in Karnataka this week.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa said he would reach New Delhi on Wednesday morning and return with the urn containing the ashes of Vajpayee the same afternoon. Hundreds of party workers would receive the urn at the Kempegowda International Airport.
The urn will be brought in a procession to the state BJP office and arrangements have been made there for admirers of the former prime minister to pay floral tribute to the departed leader.
On Thursday, the urn would be taken in a procession to Triveni Sangam in Srirangapatna for the immersion programme passing through Ramanagar, Channapatna, Maddur and Mandya.
Yeddyurappa said the ‘Asthi Visarjan’ programme would also be held at seven other places on August 25 – in Nethravathi river, Malaprabha river, Krishna river, Karanja river, Tungabhadra river, Sharavathi river and Tunga river. A condolence meeting for Vajpayee would be held in Bengaluru on August 26. Yeddyurappa said the venue of the meeting would be finalised soon.
