26 new two-wheelers gutted in fire

As many as 26 new two-wheelers, being transported in a lorry to a showroom in the City, were gutted in a fire mishap near Dr Rajkumar Road in Rajajinagar in the early hours of Thursday.

The bikes worth Rs 12 lakh were destroyed in the fire. No casualties were reported in the incident.

According to the fire department personnel, the driver of the truck Gururaj noticed smoke emanating from the engine at around 2 am. He got down from the truck and noticed fire in the engine. Soon, the flames engulfed the two-wheelers-laden lorry.

The preliminary investigations revealed that the electrical short circuit triggered the fire.
A case has been registered in Rajajinagar police station.

Train runs over woman
A 65-year-old woman was run over by a train while she was trying to climb onto the platform from the tracks at Malleswaram railway station on Thursday morning.

According to the police, Gowramma, a resident of Gayathri Nagar and her family members were waiting for a train to Nanjangud on Platform 1. Gowramma crossed the tracks to fetch tea from a stall on Platform 2.

After she and her family members had tea, she again crossed the tracks to return a plate to the stall.

While she was trying to climb Platform 1, a speeding train mowed her down, said the police.
The Railway Police registered a case and shifted the body for postmortem.
