As Karnataka is inching close to the 40,000-mark in reporting fresh covid cases, Revenue Minister R Ashoka on Wednesday said that as many as 2,000 to 3,000 Covid positive patients are missing from Bengaluru. The minister made a frantic appeal to the missing people to report to helplines and be in touch with the doctors to avoid any other medical problems later.

Unveiling the Covid Care Centre (CCC) at Bagalagunte in Dasarahalli Zone of the BBMP, the minister said, “Most of the people who have tested positive for Covid-19 have switched off their mobiles and vacated Bengaluru. About 3,000 such people have gone missing in Bengaluru and and are turning out to be super-spreaders of the virus. Amidst enforcement of Covid curfew, we have also assigned the police to track these missing people. We do not know where they have gone as they are not available at the address given during the testing,” Ashoka said.

Explaining further the minister said, “The government is providing free medicine and if any person tested positive, he or she could take those at the initial stage, 90 per cent of the cases will get cured without any serious conditions. But these people switch off their mobiles as soon as they get a positive report and after experiencing breathing problems later, they struggle for bed in ICUs. This is what is happening in Bengaluru.”

Making a strong appeal, Ashoka said, “I request them with folded hands to keep their mobile phones switched on. Otherwise, they will further spread the virus, besides jeopardising their own health.”

New CCC in Dasarahalli Zone

Opening the 13th Covid Care Centre in Bengaluru at Bagalagunte in Dasarahalli Zone, Revenue minister Ashoka said that 14 member doctors and supporting staff team will be working here on a shift basis and will be attending to the asymptomatic patients in 130 beds. “We will keep aside 10-beds with an oxygen facility keeping in mind the emergency situation,” he said.
