School buses packed with children to an almost suffocating level is an everyday sight on Bengaluru city roads.

After several complaints against such vans and buses that are crammed beyond their capacity, the traffic police on Monday carried out a special drive against them.

The drive in east and west divisions saw 4,446 cases booked against such erring drivers.

The check, which began at 6 am went on till 9 am. 3,264 cases were booked in the east traffic division and 1,182 cases in the west division, said the traffic police.

School vans packed with children beyond their capacity, without any safety measures and with no insurance documents were also booked. They were slapped with fines and a warning to not repeat the offence.
