Aspiring models in the City recently put their best foot forward at a model hunt called ‘Bangalore Fashion Fest’ (‘BFF’). This was a platform for upcoming models; those who were shortlisted will walk the ramp on June 8 at the final event. The day-long affair started with a warm-up session, for which the participants grooved to Gangnam Style.
After this, each of the models walked the ramp twice. The judges for the programme, models Pratik Jain and Sakshi Agarwal, assessed each of them based on a number of factors.
According to Srinivas Pradeep, managing director of ‘BFF’, over 60 entries came in. “We have got a mix of both professional and aspiring models, as well as seasoned and fresh designers. We have profiled the candidates and their performance. We are here to give freshers a chance,” he explains.
Muruganand, fashion director of ‘BFF’, adds that with the intense competition in the industry, many talented models and designers are left behind. “Because of cost constraints, those with talent often don’t have a platform to showcase it. We are here to provide them with this opportunity,” he says.
Interestingly, Muruganand says that one of the participating designers has created
an ‘Ayurvedic treatment wardrobe’ for the programme. “Since herbal designer wear is a new concept, it is difficult for such designers to break through,” he explains, adding, “It will be an exhilarating experience for all involved in this venture. The participants seem equally excited. We have selected 24 female models and six male models.”
The theme for the selection round was ‘Go Green’. “We have told the models to work around the organic and ‘Go Green’ theme,” says Muruganand.
Models trooped in through the day to participate in the event. Ziona Pinto, a student of MS Ramaiah Dental College, who started modelling one-and-a-half years ago, says, “I have modelled for a lot of designers in the last year and a half, and am looking for more avenues through this event.”
Sonal Banerjee, a professional model, who has held the title of ‘Miss Karnataka’, adds, “It is a chance to showcase talent. Budding designers will also be given a chance to display their work.”
Actors Vishwas Bharadwaj and Gamya Biddappa were present at the event as well. Gamya states, “This is an excellent start for freshers who aspire to be a part of the fashion industry. It is a tremendous platform for these talented youngsters.”
Film and tele-serial actor, Vishwas Bharadwaj, adds, “Freshers and experienced designers are being given a platform to showcase their creativity and talent. I also
appreciate the ‘Go Green’ theme, which highlights the social responsibility of every individual.”
