You and I will meet again...’, a concert by the Majolly Music Trust that focussed on western classical music, was held in the City recently. Neecia Majolly and Jonas Olsson, the artistes of the evening, presented different classical pieces that amazed the crowd.
With a baritone voice powerful enough to keep everyone on the edge of their seats, Jonas sang each piece in the most expressive manner possible. An expert with sacred concert music and operas by Mozart, Wagner, Purcell and Mendelssohn, Jonas sang each note with utmost perfection. The concert comprised of different compositions by popular composers like Mozart, Handel, Schubert, Brahms and others. The programme was divided into four segments, each followed by a solo piano recital by Neecia.
The evening started with Vittoria Mio Core, Caro Mio Ben and Ombra Mai Fu, followed by Neecia delivering a solo — ‘D Scarlatti’s Sonato L 33 in B minor’.
The evening progressed with different numbers like Ein Madchen oder Weibchen, Panis Angelicus, Widmung, ‘Song of the Evening Star’, Jungfru Blond och Jungfru Brunett, Wohin, Von Ewiger Liebe and more.
While each of the pieces was special in style, the coordination between the artistes itself and the interactive approach to the audience was worth noticing.
The venue echoed the applause of the audience. Hari Bhaskar, a teacher in Chennai, comments, “Nothing exciting happens in Chennai. I’ve come all the way from there to be at this performance — that explains enough, doesn’t it? I’ve attended many shows by the Majolly trust and have enjoyed each one of them. If one wants to see some decent music performances, this is the place to be.”
Varsha Shashtri, a music student, says, “They do a lot a lot of performances with youngsters and I’ve so far enjoyed every performance of theirs. It’s hard to witness such a solo performance, which is both raw and pure. And I especially loved the duet performance, which left the audience in awe.”
Even first-timers were throughly impressed. Roshinee Raajendra, owner of a consultancy firm in the City, says, “This is the first time I’ve watched them and I’m sure I’m coming back for more. I regret not having been to their concerts earlier, and am going to keep my eyes open for their next one.”
Talking about how this concert came about, Neecia says, “This concert was not there on our calender. Jonas suddenly announced that he will be leaving the country soon and he wished for a concert before he left — that is how this concert came into being.” She wraps up with a smile, “The title is called ‘You and I will meet again..’ for the obvious reason that like Jonas has promised, we hope that he will be back to perform with us soon.”
