A college canteen is more than an eating place. It is also a platform for debating issues, cracking gossips and jokes and having loads of fun while enjoying a variety of food. The canteen at Maharani Lakshmi Ammanni College is not an exception.

This college canteen offers all varieties of food, from Chinese dishes to chaats and chocolates to cool drinks.

The most interesting thing is that the menu changes everyday. And the student community is all excited about the food.

The college principal pays surprise visits to the food court to assess the quality of the food. The faculty members too join the student community while having lunch.
B C Shivakumar has been looking after this canteen for six years.

“We serve all variety of food, right from South Indian breakfast to Chinese dishes. The food junction opens at 7.30 am and closes at 4.30 pm. Among the items, fried rice and gobhi manchurian are the most sought-after ones,” says Niranjan, who looks after the business at times.

There are separate counters for breakfast, chaats and juices. There is also a condiment shop comprising yummy chocolates, crispy chips and cold drinks.

Sushma says, “We usually order chaats and fried rice. They don’t mind if we ask for more chutney and sambaar. There are fresh fruit juices and everything is pocket-friendly here.”
Amritha, her friend adds, “The good thing about our college canteen is that, they have installed a new aquaguard which provides filtered and cold water all the time. The canteen is clean and the service is really good.”

Rekha, a journalism student, likes the food. “The menu changes everyday and hence we never get bored.Though we bring our lunch boxes at times, we like to relish the canteen food at least once in a day,” she says.

Suman, a second year B Sc student, feels that the food court is a little congested.

She says, “The place is overcrowded during leisure time and it’s difficult to find a place to sit. The food is really tempting and also hygienic. We need better seating arrangements, so that we can sit comfortably and enjoy the food.”
