Three people were killed, while two policemen were injured in separate accidents in the city since Wednesday night.
The deceased include a pedestrian, a woman and a software engineer.
Karthik (28), a software professional, was killed after a tipper lorry knocked down his bike in Madiwala.
He was heading home from Electronics City when the accident happened around
11 pm on Wednesday. To make matters worse, it was raining, too, the police said. Karthik died on the spot due to grievous head injuries.
The lorry driver fled the scene following the accident. However, the Madiwala traffic police managed to trace and arrest him on Thursday.
Lorry hits woman’s bike
In another accident, a 32-year old woman software engineer was killed on the spot after a speeding lorry hit her bike near Karthiknagar on Wednesday night in HAL. The victim, Poonam, was a resident of KR Puram and a native of New Delhi, the police said. The HAL traffic police have registered a case.
70-year-old pedestrian killed
In the third incident, a 70-year-old pedestrian was killed after a speeding bike knocked him down on Wednesday evening in Frazer Town.
The deceased, Nagaraj, was a security guard at an apartment in JC Nagar, the police said. According to the police, Nagaraj was returning home around 7.30 pm. He was crossing the road when a speeding two-wheeler knocked him down. Nagaraj succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The biker, Kumar, who sustained injuries is said to be out of danger. The Pulakeshinagar traffic police have registered a case.
Near Cubbon Park...
An assistant sub-inspector and a constable attached to the Cubbon Park traffic police station were grievously injured after a speeding car hit their vehicle while they were on duty on Wednesday. The accident happened around midnight at the Balekundri Circle near Cubbon Park, the police said.
ASI Shridhar and driver Basavaraju were travelling in a car near the Balekundri Circle when the speeding car crashed into their vehicle.
The driver of the speeding car fled the scene.
The police vehicle toppled, and passers-by rushed the injured to a nearby hospital. The police have traced the vehicle, but efforts are on to identify the driver.
The Cubbon Park traffic police have registered a case.
