Installing environment-friendly engine run on LPG and tamper-proof electronic metres and sporting green colour are mandatory for new autos, he added.

The minister said the old autorickshaws are exempted from going green. The government will inaugurate use of green autos in front of Vidhana Soudha on November 24, he added.

Ashok said the government has decided to decentralise the process of issuing transport permits. All these days the permits were being issued in the capital. The department will soon enable road transport authorities headed by deputy commissioners to issue transport permits for buses depending on the requirement.

Centralised system

He said the KSRTC would soon introduce centralised fair collection system. The system is expected to curb revenue leakages. As soon as the conductor issues a ticket of a particular denomination, the amount would be credited to the corporation’s account.
The minister said he would meet the Union minister Jaipal Reddy in the first week of next month to appeal for 1,000 more buses of Bangalore under JnNURM.
