The elite Bangalore Golf Club has come under the radar of the HD Kumaraswamy administration.
The State government will consider taking over the Bangalore Golf Club in view of “serious violations” it has committed, Public Works Minister HD Revanna said on Friday.
“We didn’t give them land so that they can run a bar and hotel. And where’s the provision for them to construct a building?” Revanna told a news conference here. The Bangalore Golf Club land belongs to the Public Works Department.
“A notice was served to the Club in October for which there was no response. We'll issue another notice and if need be, we will take steps to take over the Club,” Revanna said.
According to Public Works Secretary Krishna Reddy, the Bangalore Golf Club got its land during the British Raj way back in 1882. The land’s lease is renewed once every ten years by the State government.
The Club counts the who’s who of Bengaluru as its members. “That’s probably why the Club did not take permission to construct buildings,” Revanna quipped.
The Club’s land lease is due for renewal in 2021 and Revanna said the government was open to getting the club vacated.
