Bengaluru: The T2 terminal at the Bengaluru International Airport (BIAL) won the 'World Special Prize for an Interior 2023’ at UNESCO’s 2023 Prix Versailles' world architecture and design awards.

The terminal has also been awarded the honour of being one of the 'World’s Most Beautiful Airports', the 'Terminal in a Garden', which was inaugurated on November 11 last year, won the coveted award for its unique interior design, making BIAL the only Indian airport to have won this award.

Spread across 2,55,661 square metres, the T2 terminal that's decked with golden embellishments focuses on combining technological expertise with an ecologically sound approach to celebrate Karnataka's cultural heritage. It features an indoor garden with earth walls, hanging planted bells, and waterfalls, complete with engineered bamboo structures.

The Prix Versailles, established in 2015, focuses on "intelligent sustainability" and looks at the ecological, cultural and social impacts of each project under consideration for a world title. Across several categories including airports, shopping malls, campuses and passenger stations, the jury had to award 24 world titles considering the marriage of innovation, creativity, reflection of local heritage, ecological efficiency, and values of social interaction in each architectural project.
