He visited the site of the collapsed building in Babusapalya near Hennur on Thursday. Eight people have been confirmed dead in the tragedy, while two more bodies are still trapped under the rubble.

Siddaramaiah noted that Rs 3 lakh from the Labour Department and Rs 2 lakh from the BBMP would be given to each family and added that the government would bear the hospital bills for the treatment of the injured.

He also instructed BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath to give a notice to the zonal commissioner over the illegal construction.

"The suspension of the AEE (Assistant Executive Engineer) is not enough. The zonal commissioner must also be issued a notice for allowing construction on the illegal site," he stated.
