India’s premier Biotech forum, Bangalore India Bio-2013, will be held from February 4 to February 6 at the Lalit Ashok Hotel in Bangalore. The three-day event is expected to bring together global leaders from the life sciences sector for a comprehensive overview of the industry.
A curtain raiser event was organised by the Department of Information Technology, Bio-Technology and Science and Technology, Government of Karnataka, Vision Group on Biotechnology and MM Activ Sci-Tech Communications in Bangalore on Tuesday.
I S N Prasad, Principal Secretary, Information Technology, Biotechnology and Science and Technology, said that the event will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar. Three industry reports will be released on the occasion. These are: “Indian Biotechnology: The roadmap to the next decade and beyond,” “Opportunities for Fermentation Industry and Biotechnology,” and a report on “Funding Your Science Idea,” by the Atharva Life Sciences Consulting.
The conference will deliberate on topics such as biosimilars, regenerative medicine, molecular biotechnology and bio-informatics, vaccines and clinical research. It may also help enable partnering and deal-making trends in biotechnology.
MoU planned
The Scottish Development International led by Anne MacColl, the CEO of the Scottish Development International and Mark Lytle of the US Department of Economic Development, who is also the Division Director of the Georgia Centres of Innovation and Department of Economic Development, in Georgia, are both expected to sign MoUs with Karnataka Biotechnology and Information Services (KBITS), paving the way for a better exchange of knowledge and trade relations between the respective nations.
Prominent attendees
Besides scientists and entrepreneurs from India, Bangalore India Bio is expected to draw a large contingent of international delegates from over 20 countries, including Scotland, USA, Canada, Australia, Atlanta, Germany, UAE, France, Britain, Mexico, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore. International MoUs, technical tie-ups and business collaborations agreements will be signed during the three-day event between international participants and the Indian life science fraternity.
One of the highlight sessions at Bangalore INDIA BIO will be discussions on topics such as “India’s challenges in being preferred as the Global Biotech Hub” and “Can India become a 100 Billion Dollar Biotech Hub by 2025.” One of the key speakers of the event will be Dr Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Chairperson, Karnataka Vision Group on Biotechnology and also the chairman and managing director, Biocon Limited.
During the event, Bio Excellence Awards will be conferred on eminent personalities from established and start-up companies.
