To put an end to the on-going row over idol installation, Bangalore University (BU) has decided to install Buddha idol beside Goddess Saraswati idol in the administrative block at Jnanabharathi campus. On Wednesday, the sub-committee under the chairmanship of syndicate member Shivanna unanimously agreed for the decision.


The Federation of post graduation and research scholars Bangalore University refused the removal of Buddha statue from the administrative block, the sub-committee came to this conclusion. For now the Buddha statue will be removed from the place, where it has been kept, and separate platform will be built next to it. “We have asked our technical team to submit a detail report on the capacity of the platform, whether is it sufficient to bear the weight of the idols. Since both the idols are made out of marble, we should ensure the strong basement. Since the separate platform needs to be constructed, the Buddha idol will be kept safely in a separate place for now. Once the construction of both platforms by the clearance of all the technical glitches both the idols will be installed at a time,” Venugopal KR, Vice-Chancellor, Bangalore University said.


The sub-committee has also appealed to all stakeholders of the varsity to maintain peace and cooperate for the cause.
