Majority of the university’s 400 teaching and 1,000 non-teaching staff along with thousands of students are expected to take part in the demonstration, though the Council has not made participation mandatory for all, said Munirajappa, president of the Council. Hence, it is not yet clear if the classes will be abandoned during the protest.

He said the BU officials should discuss the issue with Chancellor H R Bhardwaj and ensure that exit and entry gates to the campus are heavily guarded.  “Any rowdy can enter the BU without any restriction. The campus should be guarded on the lines of the Indian Institute of Science and NAL.”

The Council plans to submit a memorandum to the Governor, the University officials and education ministers, urging them to proscribe ‘extremist’ organisation such as Ram Sene.  The Bangalore University College Teachers’ Association has also condemned the attack.
