According to sources, the Board has hired 86 private water tankers to meet the needs of KR Puram, Mahadevapura and Bommanahalli.
The areas together account for more population compared to that in the limits of erstwhile municipal areas. All the borewells in the three constituencies have dried up. In addition, the BWSSB has pressed 42 of its tankers into service.
Taken together, the tankers supply five million litre water a day. A sum of Rs two lakh goes towards hire charges for private tankers (Rs 1,650 per tanker per day). The Board sought financial assistance from the government and the latter promptly suggested the Board to use its own resources.
