The High Court on Wednesday hoped that the State Cabinet would quickly
approve a comprehensive policy on safety of schoolchildren.

Hearing a petition that has sought the court’s direction on implementing child safety measures in schools, Justice A S Bopanna directed the government to submit an action taken report in that regard.

The government counsel submitted that the government had framed safety guidelines for schoolchildren by incorporating inputs from all departments and the Cabinet’s approval was awaited.

The counsel said that the government would give details of what it had done to instal CCTV cameras and take other safety measures in state-run schools. The counsel also mentioned the rape of a three-year-old child at a school in Indiranagar.

The bench directed the government to submit an action taken report and adjourned the hearing until August 19.
