The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) will soon file an appeal against the discharge of Raghaveshwara, pontiff of Ramachandrapura mutt, in a rape case.
Sources in the CID said the appeal would be filed before the High Court within a couple of weeks.
According to the sources, the main contention of the CID would be that the trial court had discharged the accused without trial. “The seer has been acquitted at the pre-trial stage. The public prosecutor has stated that the grounds on which the seer has been acquitted are not maintainable and it is a fit case for filing an appeal,” an officer said.
The CID began the process of documentation before filing the appeal, the sources said.
