Malleswaram woke up to a new beginning on Saturday with prominent citizens, corporators and local MLA coming together to launch a campaign called ‘My Malleswaram’.
Malleswaram MLA Aswath Narayan C N said the campaign would provide a platform for addressing wide range of issues concerning to the constituency. Be it delivery of basic services, public space, environment, issues of health, this civic movement would act as a solution mechanism, he added.
As a first initiative under the campaign, a special Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) drive was initiated in association with the Election Commission of India and the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).
Aswath Narayan said the special drive aims to ensure that no voter misses out on exercising his right in the constituency.
To a query he said the special drive aims to achieve 100 per cent enrolment in the constituency by June 6, the last date for the EPIC enrolment.
Malleswaram resident and Padma Shri Dr Ramana Rao said micro management is very important in addressing civic issues and campaigns like ‘My Malleswaram’ will go a long way in achieving the same. Jaggesh, vice-chairperson of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) said a constituency can overcome its problems only through proper co-ordination between its residents and civic agencies.
A committee comprising prominent citizens of the constituency, NGOs and subject experts from elsewhere would be formed to deal with the issues scientifically and systematically.
