Many trees and branches across the city that have dried up could pose a threat in the upcoming monsoon days.
Though there were reports of tree falling incidents across the city during the pre-monsoon rain, the BBMP forest cell has still not woken up to the seriousness of the issue.
Areas near the BBMP main office, the Halasuru Gate police station, the Kanteerava Stadium, Raja Ram Mohan Roy Road and the Cubbon Park, have a thick green
cover. Here, there are a lot of old trees whose weak branches need to be trimmed.
There are also many dead trees, which can collapse due to heavy rain and winds. Speaking to DH, Chola Raju, deputy conservator of forest, BBMP, said the pre-monsoon showers had cautioned them about the issue and were working on it.
“We are getting complaints from different parts of the city. We have taken up the branches trimming work in all the zones,” he said.
“I have told the officials to not to wait for my order and act immediately.
The trees that cannot be chopped are being trimmed at many places. Various departments of the civic body are coordinating in the issue,” the officer said.
