The party gets even better when there are cocktails, a perfect mix of fun, laughter, dance and some contemplation. Food blogger Vasundhara Latwal shares three cocktail recipes to add to the menu for your next house party.
Mint Julep
Ingredients
Bourbon whiskey of choice - 30ml
Mint leaves - handful
Sugar cubes 2/granulated sugar
- 3 tbsp
Crushed ice
Method
Take a whiskey glass and add two or three leaves of fresh mint. Add two sugar cubes to the mixture and gently muddle them together to release the flavour of the mint. Sugar cubes can be replaced with fine sugar. Add three tablespoons of that instead of the cubes.
Add bourbon whiskey to the glass and give it a quick mix.
Top it with crushed ice to give it the extra kick.
Finally, stir the mixture once, garnish it with mint leaves and serve.
Basil Orange Gimlet
Ingredients
Gin - 30ml
Basil/mint leaves - handful
Orange juice - 125ml
Club soda - 75ml
Juice of half a lime
Triple sec or simple syrup - 30ml
Ice cubes
Method
Start by taking tall cocktail glass and basil/mint leaves and muddle it to release the flavour.
Add lemon juice and triple sec/simple syrup to the mixture. A simple syrup can be made beforehand by boil water and sugar and stored in a bottle.
Add the gin and give it a quick stir.
Top it up with orange juice, stir, add soda and stir again.
Garnish it with a wedge of lime or basil leaves and voila, your beautiful summer cocktail is ready!
