Her portrayal of the silent and simple girl called Nandini in Lifeu Ishtene is a lot like her in real life. And that was one of the reasons why director Pawan picked her to play the part.
Sindhu says that for a very long time she knew that she would be doing Lifeu Ishtene. “I had previously done a short film with Pawan on the ill-effects of smoking. Back then, he had mentioned this project to me and had told me that I’d be part of it,” says Sindhu, who took a long break in Kannada films before signing the movie.
The reason for this break, she says, was the lack of good roles.
After the release of Parichaya, she got offers that were very similar to her character in Parichaya. “Most of the offers I got after Parichaya had very little scope for performance. Soon offers started coming from Tamil and Telugu, and I got busy with them,” says Sindhu, who’s first Tamil film Vaada Pooda Naan Bargal released this January.
Soon, her second Tamil film, Muppoludum Un Kartanaigal, which also stars Atharva, the son of late actor Murali, will hit screens. “This is a fun, romantic film where I play the role of a software engineer,” she says. “What I really like about these industries is that Telugu films are more about glamour and opulence, Tamil film-makers lay stress on the script and Kannada films are a combination of both. So I get to do a bit of everything.”
Sindhu, however, looks for more concept-oriented films. “It’s not about the quantity but quality of work. I would rather do two films a year than 20. I know there are very few scripts which demand performance. But don’t want to be seen on screen for two-and-a-half hours if there is no story,” she adds. Currently, the pretty damsel is working in Nan Lifealli, a Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar Production. Calling it an honour to work in a good production house like this, Sindhu is all set to play a character that is very unlike her. “I play a very talkative and bubbly girl. The shoot has just started and I am getting to know everyone on the sets. Like Lifeu Ishtene, this team is also young and I am confident this will be a movie to watch out for,” she signs off.
