Comics, cosplay and camaraderie cobbled together a coalition of sorts as the 5th edition of the Alto Bengaluru Comic Con kicked off in dramatic fashion at the KTPO Convention Centre here on Saturday.

Day One had artist Akshay Dhar and Gowra Hari conduct a special session on creating comics. If that was not exciting enough for the huge crowds that thronged the venue, Warner Bros had their upcoming movie line-ups like Fantastic Beasts and Justice League to pep up the crowd.

The fans also found an ‘Artist Alley,’ a zone exclusively featuring artists from all over India and Bengaluru. Lined up to entertain them were an array of artists, illustrators and designers working for comics and related fields. Among the featured artists were Saumin Suresh Patel, Reshmi Chandrashekhar, Prasad Bhatt, Rajeev Tamhankar, Nikita Das Gupta, Leena Swamy, Ayan Nag, Varsha Kodgi, Milanpreet and Madhuvanthi Mohan.

Creators Akshay Dhar from Meta Desi Comics, Vivek Goel from Holy Cow Entertainment and Shamik Dasgupta from Yali Dreams were there too.  Six new comic book titles were launched on the opening day, including Karma, LoSs4A2, Jataka Manga, The Age of Immortals and Mighty Girl. For the record, Comic Con India has been designed to create unique events and give fans, exhibitors and partners a platform to celebrate their passion for comics and pop culture.

On the event agenda are international artists such as Todd Nauck, Joe Harris and Jim Demonakos. Setting the mood for their arrival were several cosplay artistes dressed as superheroes and comic characters.

One main attraction at this year’s event is the Baahubali zone, showcasing the “Transgenic Content” for fans. At the Wand Master Training Booth, visitors could learn to use wands to create official spells and get the video of their experience. Comic Con will stay alive on Sunday too.

Comic Con India is part of the Reedpop family of events that include similar editions in New York, Shanghai and other world cities.
