Bengaluru: A fire erupted on the ground and first floors of a commercial building at Banaswadi on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) under the Ramamurthy Nagar police station limits past midnight on Monday.
While no deaths or injuries were reported, two security guards trapped on the fifth floor were successfully rescued.
The Fire and Emergency Services personnel received the call at 2.34 am. Immediately, three fire brigades were dispatched.
The basement of the privately owned building, located opposite Nandi Toyota, has a car parking. While the ground and the first floors house the ‘Sofas & More by Stanley’ furniture store, the second floor was occupied by ‘COMED-K Innovative Engineering Training Centre.’ The third and the fourth floors housed Bray Controls India Pvt Ltd and the fifth floor had rooms for security guards.
When the flames began spreading, an on-duty security guard on the ground floor ran to the fifth floor to alert his colleagues staying there, fire officials said.
“The fire began on the ground level and was limited to the first floor,” a senior Fire and Emergency Services officer told DH. “The two security guards were safely rescued once the fire was fully extinguished around 5.30 am.”
The furniture inside ‘Sofas & More by Stanley’ on the ground floor and first floor were damaged, the officer added.
The building owner, residing in the vicinity, filed a complaint with the Ramamurthy Nagar police, indicating that the fire may have occurred due to a short circuit inside the furniture store.
“Investigation is underway,” a police investigator attached to the station said.
