We all played it safe when it comes to fashion all through last year, with the focus on experimentation only in loungewear. While we may be ready to get our outdoor clothes out of the closet, we might not be as excited to forgo the comfort that our loose sweatpants offered us. But, thankfully, our fashion catalogues have a lot of styles from cargo pants to mom jeans that perfectly combine cosy and classic look.

Mom jeans and flare jeans

Say goodbye to uncomfortably tight pants this year as the skinny jeans trend is completely done and dusted. Wide-legged flare jeans are also universally loved. High waisted flared jeans are vintage-looking, super casual and irresistibly comfortable. Best part? They look good on all body types and are versatile. “The best thing about flare jeans is that they go with anything and everything – from bodysuits, basic crop tops, loose staple T-shirts and even blazers!” says Diya Subudhi, an upcoming fashion and lifestyle blogger.

Bootcut trousers and bellbottoms

These work for a professional look, a casual outing or even a Sunday brunch! Bootcut trousers, too, work well with any body type, with the added benefit of making the wearer look taller. “Bootcut trousers look sleek and classy with heels. Even though they look great in and with all pastel shades. I tend to keep the rest of my ensemble in similar tonal colours for a luxe monochrome look,” adds Diya. These trousers are definitely a refreshing alternative to the uncomfortable formal pencil skirts and when worn as a part of a suit, they give the perfect powerful vibe.

Barrel leg pants/trousers

Wear it once and these will surely become your favourite pair! An interesting take on the concept of ‘jeans-and-a-nice-top’, barrel leg pants gives an edgy and fresh look. These trousers are flattering, architectural, and pair well with so many
things – from shirts to hair barrettes and square neck bodysuits. It’s an easy outfit piece for a get-together with friends, brunch and vacations. “Beige and other nude colours are my hues of choice with these trousers. They are casual and cosy and can be easily elevated with sharp blazers, cute tops, and heels,” says Diya.

Colourful and striped

Striped pants are always a classic, no matter the year or trend. They express a laid-back yet fashionable vibe. Well-fitted striped and patterned pants appear to elongate legs and give an effortless runway model look. It’s a ubiquitous piece that fashion connoisseurs seem to love integrating into their daily outfits. “I inevitably find myself reaching for these pants when I am looking to make a powerful statement. These are so cheerfully cute and make me look taller without putting any external effort,” says Anisha Dewan, an undergraduate student who finds fashion to be a creative outlet.

Palazzo Pants

Stack away your skinny denim, leggings and jeggings and immediately bag these colourful, comfortable and buoyant 60s-style trousers instead. Available in a wide variety of fabrics ranging from linen to crepe and chiffon, they are fashionable, formal, and super fun. These pants are a must-have for this summer. “I usually go for plain palazzo pants in light and pastel shades and pair them with body-hugging T-shirts for a classy and summery look. I absolutely love the fact that they are not just limited to high-end stores. Numerous options are available in street markets around the city,” adds Anisha.
