When a grandmother has to gift a gift to her grandchild, it becomes imperative to find the best piece available so that the kid looks nothing less than a showstopper at a fashion show!

This is what homemaker Kiran Seth wanted when she went shopping for her granddaughter. “My granddaughter was coming from Australia to attend a wedding here and I wanted to gift her a dress. Something that goes with her Western aspirations as well as satisfies my desire to see her in an Indian outfit. I was worried that I am expecting too much but when I ventured out, I was surprised to see not only ready-made options for kids of every age group but also designers who customise as per requirement.”

Kiran’s worries soon vanished and so did those of many others who want their young ones to look as pretty and dashing as any supermodel. When these children step out with parents in social gatherings, they are often complimented for their dresses.

Apart from the recent TV commercials of online websites which provide designer dresses for kids, there are designers who have dedicated collections for young ones. Take for instance, Studio 169 which deals in a lot of Indo-Western garments specially designed for kids. “Stitched in bright colours with a lot of embellishments, these apparels are primarily designed keeping in mind traditional festivals and gala Indian weddings. If you like a particular design then it can be customised according to your child’s age in just a few days,” shares its designer.

From frocks to jackets and gowns to bandhgalas and dhotis, there is no dearth of options if one needs to buy a smart and stylish outfit these days. What adds to this is the number of designer wear brands and stores that have flooded the Delhi's malls and markets.

If the preference is not an outing but just daily wear, there are options available in eco-friendly and organic Nino Bambino. “The organic cotton that we use to make baby garments is free of any pesticides and thus there is no risk of eczema which kids often complain about, due to skin rashes caused by clothes. The designs too are not very traditional or run-of-the-mill, as we have a team of in-house designers who focus on the cut and make sure that the silhouettes are nice, comfortable and functional for a baby,” says Vickram Kumar, the brand's managing director.

Apart from daily wear, collections introduced by international brands have also flooded the market. From Easter to Christmas and Raksha Bandhan to Diwali, there is a kids’ collection for almost every festival.

So select from the vast variety and deck your young one like a superstar!
