With the plant to be inaugurated in December, it is hoped that majority of the garbage problems of the residents across Ward 112 will be solved.
The segregation plant in Domlur will be one among the 10 other plants across the City. The other centres at Shivajinagar, Koramangala, Rajajinagar, Mahadevapura and Malleswaram are already functioning.
Address the woes
Speaking to Deccan Herald, Palike’s Chief Engineer (SWM) B Satish said there were plans to set about 100 more centres that would solve the dry waste problems in the City.
“Majority of the waste is dry in the form of bottles, plastic, milk sachets and other such items. All these will be segregated at the collection centre and every material which can be recycled will be sent to respective recycling plants,” he said.
In Domlur, the Palike has tied with the NGO ‘Waste Voice’. While the Palike has borne the construction costs of the centre, the operations will be shifted to the NGO which will look after employment and payment of rag pickers.
Maintenance important
Corporator Geetha Reddy, who is also a resident of Domlur, said: “Domlur is a prime location with Indiranagar and M G Road nearby. It becomes very important that such a spot is clean and residents are living in good conditions. The segregation plant when inaugurated should be able to solve the problem of dumped garbage that lay in the same spot for many days.”
Nikita Nambiar, who stays near the BDA complex in Domlur, said: “There is always waste piled outside our house. The garbage gets cleaned when we complaint to the corporator. But people do not realise their mistake when they dump waste on the road. This plant will make Domlur clean as there will regular cleaning and recycling.”
Satish added that people who give their mixed dry waste to the plant will be paid Rs two per kg. “This will encourage people to segregate dry waste at home.”
