The upcoming general elections appear to defer resolution of 13-year-old struggle for water by the residents of Anjana Nagar. The polls have come in the way of floating e-tenders for the pipe-laying work.
Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) chief engineer Ramaswamy said they will be able to take up work only after elections are over.
“We were planning to float tenders. Since it is e-tendering, the tenders will be opened only after 60 days and work cannot be awarded as model code of conduct will be in force by then,” he said.
Lack of basic amenities
Anjana Nagar, a BDA layout, was formed in 2001 and sites were allotted without basic amenities. An estimated Rs 35.66 crore will be spent on laying water pipelines for nearly 52 km and water will be drawn from the Jambu Savari Dinne located four kilometers from the layout.
A BWSSB official said they will take up the work of laying water pipelines and subsequently, sanitary lines. Though a part of Anjana Nagar comes under the newly-added to BBMP limits, the BWSSB is taking up the work as it is a BDA layout.
