After meeting with an accident on Hosur Road near Anekal while riding pillion on a bike without a helmet, 22-year-old Vikash Kumar was declared brain-dead on Sunday. His family donated his organs including his forelimbs on Sunday.

A distributor in a private mobile network company, he was rushed to the government hospital and later shifted to Narayan Health city where he was declared brain-dead. His heart, heart valves, lungs, kidneys, liver, corneas and even his forelimbs were donated.

His forearms were retrieved and transplanted to a 31-year-old man from Tamil Nadu who lost his hands in an accident.

Vikas’s cousin, Tarkesh, said that his cousin was a bright and lively person. “Vikas’ parents have lost four sons in 10 years including Vikas now. They are not very well-off, so Vikas’ parents do odd jobs to maintain the family. My only request is that the government should look into this matter and provide a government job to the only surviving son in the family,” he added.
